E=Ministry of Energy Awards TZS 25 Million Seed Grants to 10 Innovators in Energy Efficiency Challenge

Dar es Salaam, 12 September 2025 – The Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), today celebrated the awarding ceremony of the 2nd Energy Efficiency Innovation Challenge.
A total of 10 innovators were each awarded TZS 25 million seed grants to scale up their groundbreaking solutions in:

Energy-efficient appliances ⚡

Energy-efficient buildings 🏢

Behaviour change initiatives 🌱
The Challenge, launched under the Implementation of Tanzania’s First Energy Efficiency Action Plan (2022–2025), aims to empower youth, women, and local enterprises to contribute to national energy priorities while advancing sustainable industrialization and green jobs.
Eng. Innocent Luoga, Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy, representing the Permanent Secretary, emphasized the Government’s strong commitment:
“The Ministry of Energy will continue to connect these innovators with government programmes, development partners and the private sector, so their solutions can scale up and support the National Energy Compact and the Energy Efficiency Strategy 2024–2034.”
From the European Union, Mr. Lamine Diallo, Head of Natural Resources, underlined the EU’s partnership with Tanzania:
“Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of the EU–Tanzania Green Partnership. These innovators are not only shaping solutions for households and industries, but also demonstrating how local creativity can drive global climate action.”
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative added:
“Through this Challenge, we are proud to work with the Government and EU to unlock opportunities for innovation, green jobs, and inclusive growth. The ideas we celebrate today show that Tanzanian youth and women are leading the way towards a sustainable energy future.”
