EE Project Goes Green with Solar PV and Electric Vehicles (EVs)
UNDP Tanzania is taking bold steps towards combating climate change and promoting sustainable energy. The newly established Energy Efficiency (EE) Project office in Dodoma has recently installed solar PV panels, which will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the project and contribute to a sustainable future.
As part of the UNDP’s ‘Greening Moonshot’ initiative, UNDP Tanzania was recently awarded funding worth $75,000, which was used to purchase two electric vehicles (EVs) to replace two internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in Dodoma. This innovative initiative serves as a demonstration project, showcasing the benefits of EVs and raising awareness about their role in creating a sustainable future.
To power the EV charging stations, the recently installed solar PV panels in the EE project office will be used, making the charging process Net Zero. This means that the solar panels generate enough energy to fully power the charging stations without relying on the grid.
We’re proud to take these significant steps towards combatting climate change and promoting sustainable energy, and we hope to inspire others to follow in our footsteps.
